WGE: achieves “Best Employer” status for 3rd consecutive year

We don’t just talk- we do it.

Wood & Grieve Engineers (WGE) is extremely pleased to announce they have been accredited as an Aon Hewitt Best Employer in Australia and New Zealand for the 3rd consecutive year.

This trifecta accreditation is a wonderful acknowledgement that WGE is far more than just a place to work and that indeed the culture, environment and engagement of their staff is what sets them apart and enables them to deliver their very best to clients and partners.

Jose Granado, CEO, said, “I am truly delighted and proud that WGE has been recognised for a third year in a row as being an Aon Hewitt Best Employer. We truly believe our people are our greatest asset and work hard to protect, nurture and develop them. We aim to create an environment that facilitates and drives engagement, with our unique culture being at the centre of everything we do.”

WGE’s unique culture is a strong driver of its high levels of employee engagement. The results of the survey hold true to the values of the company being: great people, exceptional service and high performance. Some of WGE’s highest engagement scores were in the areas that focussed on:
• People truly are our greatest asset
• Customer focus
• Sense of accomplishment
This strong correlation between WGE’s values and what employees say WGE excels in, illustrates that they don’t just talk- they do it.

According to the survey results what can others learn from WGE?
• Your work environment can facilitate communication and drive engagement. WGE has a uniquely flat management structure to ensure accessibility to senior leaders and a personable company culture. They encourage face-to-face communication and make it easy for employees to directly approach senior leaders- even the CEO sits on the open plan floor.
• Culture and engagement are key to retention. WGE have a strong and unique organisational culture and are dedicated to maintaining it regardless of external challenges. The average tenure is 7.5 years, with half the Principals of the firm having been there for 10+. Hear it from WGE employees themselves, click here for a video about the WGE culture.

WGE: Creating pathways during construction

The new walkway link at Melbourne Airport is complete, which passengers will walk along between the Virgin & Tiger/Rex Terminals, for the next two years until the new T4 is built.

WGE are proud to have designed the structural elements of this walkway. The link is about 150m long, with 11 modules, all raised 5m in the air to suit existing airport terminal levels. It was designed with the steel on the outside so that all the passengers see is clean bondor panel lining as they walk along . The structural exoskeleton also made it easier transport & erect the modules (without damaging waterproofing) and attach services to the outside.

Melbourne WGE win PCA golf day

On Friday 7 March, 120 golfers took part in the annual Property Council Golf Day sponsored by Harris HMC.

The event was held at Woodlands Golf Course, in Mordialloc, with the course in pristine condition following their recent club championships. The WGE team consisted of Cormac Kelly and George Samaras from WGE and Peter Sullivan and Andrew Tucker from Cox Architecture. After some early jitters the ship was steadied and a round of 8 under proved to be enough to take out the title.

The event was a big success and an impressive trophy was presented to commemorate the win. The team will look to reform in 2015 and be the first team to claim back to back titles.
