The Metropolitan Golf Club’s new clubhouse has set a new benchmark for premier golf club facilities that will be hard to meet. The clubhouses’ striking architecture provides not only a fantastic new venue but a magnificent backdrop as you play the 18th hole.
Working closely with SJB Architects, the Melbourne Wood & Grieve team undertook the mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, fire protection, fire engineering and sustainability services for this challenging build.
SJB Architects set very high expectations with respect to the final finish and services integration, particularly with the bold zinc roof. With no services penetrations and innovative approach to roof drainage, Wood & Grieve Engineers (WGE) were set a challenge. As SJB Director, Tony Battersby suggests, WGE were definitely up for the challenge:
“The design of the Metropolitan clubhouse demanded innovative solutions by the Wood & Grieve team. Our brief to WGE required an architecturally “clean” roof form, with absolutely no visible services and discreet roof drainage solutions. WGE delivered on this challenge with clever integrated solutions and seamless interior servicing of the facility to create a highly sophisticated new clubhouse for the Metropolitan members.”
Basso Project Management who led the project from very early on where instrumental in the successful outcome. Director Elia Basso also acknowledged the project team’s contribution and commitment to the spectacular outcome:
“We knew from early on this project was going to be challenging for the entire consultant team, as it was a project involving a committee and members, who were all enthusiastic and wanted to be involved. We therefore needed to bring together a team of consultants who we knew would be flexible and work well together to achieve the desired outcomes. We had no hesitation in recommending WGE to the client, as they always deliver for us and are always available whenever required throughout the course of the project. The result of the consultant teams expertise, dedication and team work, is a magnificent new clubhouse for the Metropolitan Golf Club”
With the Club’s signature flowering gum tree taking centre stage, the new building with its large volume and elevated position, creates a commanding outlook over the course.
