With more than 28 years’ experience, Andrew’s early building services career began in the UK where he acquired a wealth of client and stakeholder liaison skills, before relocating to Perth and WGE in 2006. His affable personality and pragmatic approach to the challenging nature of the engineering environment makes him popular with Clients and staff alike, earning him the role of Mechanical Section Manager and an invitation to become a Principal in the company.
Andrew adopts a proactive, ‘can do’ attitude to projects across all sectors, but particularly in Healthcare, Commercial, Education, Residential and Recreation. Encountering obstacles, Andrew prefers to strive for a quality solution that will contain his project within programme and budget constraints; leading his team by example to take ownership of issues and to build key relationships in the process. The focus for Andrew is always to deliver great client service and a successful project.
I’m a people person; I thrive on the collaborative process with both the project design team and between the disciplines at WGE. I take a great deal of satisfaction from seeing the positive impact my input has made to the Client or the end user at the completion of a successful project.
Andrew enjoys cycling, and commutes 20km to and from the office most days. He also has a passion for soccer, being a lifelong Crystal Palace Football supporter.
Andrew has three children and he dedicates most of his spare time enjoying and supporting his family.
The standard of approach, assistance and skill level was excellent.

I first dealt with Andrew quite some time ago and I’ve observed a consistent provision of excellent engineering service and solutions over the years. Therefore I look forward to there being opportunities to work with you and WGE in the future.

Wood and Grieve provided an efficient and sustainable design solution, proactive problem resolution, a high standard of reporting and prompt responses to information requests. Their thorough knowledge of Dept of Health Practical Completion requirements made for a smooth transition when the facility was handed over to the Client. Andrew Wakelam managed the mechanical consultancy and he was practically "hands on" throughout the duration of the project. He worked in a collaborative manner with both client representatives and other members of the consultant team.
