Structural Project Engineer, Associate

Office: Melbourne

Disciplines:
Structural

Ashley has fifteen very solid years of design & construction experience, having delivered many projects in Melbourne and also some in Singapore and London. Since joining WGE in 2011 he has delivered scores of projects worth $300m. He brought great experience with him from four years at Arup, and at two years in London with Buro Happold. Ashley delivered many fantastic & technically detailed projects over these formative years which instilled in him technical exactitude and delivery capability, which he applies daily at WGE. Some of his previous projects include the $85m HMRI Medical Institute in Newcastle, the SMREP Thomastown Train Station and Pedestrian Bridge, two mega-steel roofs at Marina Bay Sands Singapore worth $100m each, parts of the clam-shaped Aldar HQ in Abu Dhabi, the new £18m Oasis Enfield Academy in London for 1150 high-school students, and specialist parts of the £50m Bow Bells House Commercial Office which is 100 yards from St Pauls Cathedral. Ashley was exposed to high-end Northern Hemisphere design with HOK, Foster+Partners, Aedas, Buro Wagner facades etc, where he learnt UK codes, design and construction, which he applied to the intensely technical Singapore projects, and he continues to apply this knowledge daily for WGE.

Ashley gained his structural apprenticeship at a boutique structural firm in Richmond VIC over 3½ years. As a graduate he worked for Frankipile for 18mths on many major construction sites including Mirvac’s Yarra’s Edge Towers, Victoria Gardens & Knox Shopping Centres, Federation Square carpark and Eureka Tower, where he gained an immense appreciation for efficient robust designs and open unambiguous communication as non-negotiables on projects.

Ashley has a solid history of making good decisions that stand the test of time and having the dedication, organisation, work ethic and strategic oversight required to deliver projects up to $100m in value. Ashley is technically astute and has excellent experience delivering projects of diverse size and complexity. He is very personable and a great communicator who proactively contributes from project inception to completion, and enjoys working closely with all involved to successfully deliver building projects for the ongoing benefit of the users and community at large.

Client testimonials

I have found Ashley to be reasonable, proactive and quite a pragmatic engineer who does his best to come up with construction details that are buildable and achievable. Over the course of these past 4-5 years, we have become friends within the industry, and I look forward to working together again.

Jason Dean, Project Manager, Hansen Yuncken

Throughout the duration of the project, Ashley provided outstanding service to PCS, the architect and builder… Throughout the project, Ashley also presented at a number of lectures for the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning to help first year Constructive Environments students learn more about structural design. Ashley was very “visible” as the structural and civil engineer and became a regular figure on-site, well respected by both the contractors and consultants alike.
