Electrical Project Engineer, Principal

Office: Perth

Disciplines:
Electrical, Telecomms & ICT

Elliot joined WGE in 2006 after completing his university degree in electrical and communications engineering. In 2010 he was invited to become an Associate of WGE and then became a Principal in 2013. Elliot has a particular interest in technical projects including IT, communications and technology.

Since Elliot’s first project at WGE, The West Australian Newspapers’ colour printing facility in Herdsman, he has enjoyed working on large and technically complex projects.

Elliot is experienced in the delivery of highly technical systems and solutions, and is able to resolve complex services integration discussions between suppliers of equipment and key users, stakeholders and services contractors.

In June 2017, Engineers Australia named Elliot as one of “Australia’s most innovative engineers” for “turning innovative ideas into reality” at the Perth City Link Busport project. Elliot’s solution involved the use of laser scanners to improve passenger safety and comfort at the Busport.

In August 2010, the 1-megawatt Alice Springs Uterne Solar Power Station, designed by Elliot in conjunction with SunPower Corporation, received the prestigious Engineering Excellence Award at the Engineers Australia Northern Division Awards. This project featured more than 3,000 solar panels mounted on an innovative solar tracking system with high-voltage DC reticulation to 500kW inverters within the site.

In 2009 Elliot won the national Illuminating Engineers Society “Award for Excellence” for his feature lighting design at the Wesley Church in the Perth CBD.

What will you bring to a project

My ability to capture and de-mystify all kinds of technical and ICT requirements makes me a useful person to have on many 21st projects! In project meetings I consider myself to be a friendly face in the room and always try to see all points of view to get the best outcome for my clients. My special trick is my expansive knowledge and experience across the whole spectrum of building services engineering which gives me the ability to design buildable and effective solutions.

Outside work

Elliot enjoys the outdoors, building, renovating, and will take on operating any piece of equipment from a red pen and ruler to a CAT loader. Elliot’s hobbies include electronics and wasting money on his 4×4.

Client testimonials

Elliot…You have taken what was a very rough brief and given it clear definition and context.
The research and analysis work you have done was then pulled together at very short notice into what was a very impressive presentation on Monday. Both the Komatsu attendees and myself were impressed by the clarity with which the information was presented, the extent of technical work that went into it and the clear outputs. This was especially important as technical issues can often get lost in translation across the cultural and language divide. This has greatly assisted Komatsu in their ability to make informed decisions on these items and helps me keep the design on programme.
