James joined WGE in January 2018 as a transportation engineer to help establish the transportation engineering sector within the Melbourne office. James has successfully managed and delivered many traffic and transport projects across Melbourne and regional Victoria for both the private sector and government clients. James has expertise in all areas of traffic and transport planning including road safety design, road network master planning, traffic and car parking impact assessments sustainable transport planning and road safety auditing. Having regularly appeared at VCAT and Panel Hearings since 2005 James is also an experienced expert witness.

What will you bring to a project

I have significant experience leading multi-disciplinary teams in a diverse range of traffic and transport related areas, gained during extensive experience in consulting and local government.

Having worked in the industry for almost 20 years, I understand the importance of undertaking a whole of development approach to transportation to ensure the best possible results; good transportation outcomes should not dictate design but integrate seamlessly.

Outside work

Family and friends are very important to James and he enjoys spending time with his partner and two children. Being a keen adventure racer, James will regularly be found in the bush, running, hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, pack rafting or undertaking some other kind of activity.

Previous projects James worked on prior to joining WGE include:

  • Glen Waverley Activity Centre, Sustainable Transport Plan and Planning Scheme Amendment – James was previously involved in developing the Sustainable Transport Plan which aims to increase the use of sustainable transport modes to/from and within the Glen Waverley Activity Centre including public transport, car share, cycling and walking whilst decreasing traffic congestion caused by over dependence on the private motor vehicle.
  • Ballarat West Employment Zone (BWEZ) – James was formerly involved in traffic engineering capacity to assist with the design of an integrated transport network including roads and shared pedestrian and bicycle facilities. The BWEZ Freight Hub will further connect Ballarat to surrounding regions as well as Melbourne and Adelaide. It will integrate road, rail and air travel and with an area of 438 developable hectares, the hub is an essential building block of regional Victoria (WGE is currently involved with stage 2)
  • Princes Highway, Traralgon Road Safety Audits – James was the Senior/Lead Road Safety Auditor responsible for the review of the concept and detailed design plans for the upgrade of a 5km length of Princes Hwy between Traralgon and Rosedale for VicRoads and Council.
  • Eynesbury Residential Estate – James was previously involved with the master planning, for the design and development of the internal road network for the Eynesburry township with more than 5,500 homes; services included connections to the existing road network, traffic forecasting, traffic modelling, functional design and liaison with Authorities. Eynesbury is a master planned community and already proves home to around 2,000 residents, forming a close knit neighbourly community.
