Electrical and UPD Project Engineer

With over 25 years’ experience, Laurie brings a wealth of knowledge in Electrical design and project management particularly of multi-disciplinary projects including Mechanical, Hydraulic, Fire, Lift and ESD services. In 1981 Laurie qualified as an electrician gaining valuable industrial experience, followed by design and drafting for 11 years at ISCOR (Iron and Steel – South Africa), then joining private consulting engineers, Hill Kaplan Scott in South Africa, where he worked in the building services department on retail, commercial, residential and government sector work. The opportunity to work with High Voltage led to the successful design and completion of a 132/22/11kV reticulator for the entire Motherwell Township in South Africa. The following 6 years were spent completing rural electrification works for over 15,000 customers completing 9 major networks whist working as a consultant for Eskom.

Immigrating to Australia in 2000, Laurie worked on a contract basis for EGIS Consulting where he completed the Electrical design for the AAPT, Onetel, Orange and part of Vodafone’s mobile base stations from the Gold Coast to the Sunshine Coast. For the next 8 years Laurie worked as an associate with BCA Consultants in Brisbane, completing numerous residential and commercial high rises for Devine. Other work included retail shopping complexes, hospitals, hotels, commercial/warehouses, schools and various external lighting projects. Offering his competent design, project management and leadership skills, Laurie joined WGE in January 2010. Laurie is now the head of the Wood & Grieve Engineers multi-disciplinary office in Darwin.
