Stephen joined WGE as a Fire Project Engineer in 2010 after six years in another large Australian engineering consultancy. Stephen brings a strong mixture of fire engineering and fire services experience, which are complementary and enable confidence to being able to respond to queries and advise on all things “fire”.
Stephen’s experience in Fire Safety Engineering and Fire Services includes a wide range of activities on a diverse mix of projects from the initial concept stages through construction and to ongoing post-occupancy reviews.
Stephen’s Fire Services experience includes concept, schematic and detailed design, tender documentation and ongoing project management during construction of various fire safety systems.
Fire Safety Engineering activities include identification of the Fire Engineering scope, proposed solutions, engineering calculations and production of Fire Engineering Brief and Reports for Authority approval of Alternative Building Solutions.
Project roles include ongoing liaison with clients, authorities and contractors, internal supervision of Engineers and Draftspersons, review of installation, testing and commissioning works.
In July 2011 Stephen became an Associate of the Firm, and became a Principal in 2015 following appointment as Fire Section Manager in 2014.
I believe my knowledge and experience in both fire safety engineering and fire protection services enables me to provide a coordinated fire safety strategy which mixes prescriptive and performance based design elements. I like to be involved in technical detail without losing focus on the “big picture”. With the combined experience of my team, we provide concise and cost effective solutions and advice.
Outside of work, Stephen enjoys listening to music (both live and recorded) and spending time with his young family. Having two young sons has led Stephen to question some fundamentals of mathematics, because apparently one plus one equals much more than two.

The project involved the provision of completely new fire services, forming the key component of shared infrastructure for the below ground car park and adjacent City of Perth Library building.,A $50 million 12 story commercial office which has been developed within Perth’s Parliamentary Precinct. To ensure architectural intent was achieved and both capital and ongoing costs controlled, the developer QUBE Property Group engaged Wood & Grieve Engineers at an early stage to provide consulting on fire services and fire engineering design.,,,,
