Affinity Village Clubhouse

The clubhouse at Affinity Village is the first ever Green Star rated Community Centre in Australia. Achieving a 5 star certification using the Green Building Council of Australia’s (GBCA) Public Buildings Pilot Tool, the clubhouse is recognised as being at an “Australian Excellence” standard within the property industry.

The WGE sustainability team worked in collaboration with the GBCA to evaluate the intricacies of the Pilot Tool, including:

  • Updating the calculation methodologies for energy and water
  • Assessing all credit criteria against specific issues faced by this project
  • Developing fairer and more relevant outcomes for all projects
  • Providing industry feedback to create a stronger and more relevant Public Building Tool

The collaborative Pilot process provided WGE with an intimate understanding of Green Star, it’s development process and the intentions behind many of the initiatives.

Quick facts about the project:

  • 60% water saving
  • 50% energy saving
  • Reductions from the environmental footprint equalled a $50,000 saving per year in operation costs

The above was achieved without compromise in functionality or usability, making Affinity Village not a bad place to retire!

The WGE team also completed the civil and underground power work on the entire retirement village, as well as the clubhouse. The objectives of the project were to develop a village of a high standard comparable with other similar modern villages whilst maintaining a commercial balance between quality, capital cost and ongoing maintenance cost.
