This $20 million project involved the redevelopment, upgrade and extension of the existing Bullsbrook District High School site in Bullsbrook, Western Australia.

The project consisted of a new design & technology building, new science building, new student services & administration building, new middle school learning space, new music and drama building and the refurbishment of existing learning spaces.

One of the main challenges for WGE’s acoustics team was the close proximity of the school to a RAAF base where turbo engine aircraft are in use. As the training air space for the military aircraft extended over the school the design of the building envelope had to achieve internal noise levels within teaching areas that would allow conversations to occur within an acceptable level of speech intelligibility. This was achieved through controlling the noise through the mechanical systems and through the specially designed building envelope that used metal cladding and lightweight materials for the external walls and roof.
