Just 16km from Perth CBD, Bushmead Estate is a new suburb in Midland, surrounded by 185 hectares of retained bushland, which aims to encourage an environmentally sustainable community. WGE’s civil and underground power design engineers were involved in the early phases of the project to construct 92 urban residential lots.

Onerous statutory requirements and necessary amendments to the Metropolitan Region Scheme took six years to resolve, prior to turning earth on site. This was followed by hectic activity on site as the developer was required to achieve settlements prior to the end of the 2016/17 financial year, dictating the construction programme - construction commenced while issues regarding intersection configurations and wastewater pump stations were still outstanding with authorities.

With an emphasis on sustainability and conservation, the project design was sympathetic to tree retention and construction levels were made to tie in with the surrounding area. Roads were aligned to maximise retention, while services and lot connections were located to minimise the need to remove or bore under trees. Augmented retaining walls within the landscaping design took aesthetics into consideration while being structurally sound.

WGE’s civil team provided services relating to earthworks, retaining walls, roadworks, stormwater drainage, wastewater and water reticulation, while the UPD team designed all power, communications and street lighting components.
