Located close to Perth CBD, Churchlands Senior High School, an independent public school, undertook major works to expand and improve existing facilities at the school. New buildings were constructed for science and arts, technology and enterprise, general teaching and a sports hall. Refurbishment was carried out within the administration, student and staff services areas, canteen, health centre and performing arts room.
WGE’s Civil, Hydraulics and Mechanical engineers consulted on the staged construction, ensuring continuation of activities for the school community.
Significant co-ordination with the structural design was needed. This was particularly important in the teaching, science and arts buildings where services reticulation was designed to accommodate the structural deep beams and edge beams required to withstand earthquake and high wind loadings.
Our Mechanical teams achieved appropriate levels of comfort throughout the school through a mix of air-cooled DX air-conditioning, evaporative cooling and gas heating. Exhaust ventilation was provided to toilets, laboratories, reprographic areas, kiln rooms, chemical stores and welding bays, including dust extraction for wood-working classrooms.
The Hydraulics team undertook an entire fire service upgrade as part of their remit, including new pumps and tanks, repairing and replacement of existing fire mains and all required Fire Brigade approvals.
Our Civil team liaised with Water Corporation to connect the sewer extension for a new building to the existing wastewater mains network. Communication was key to fully integrate the infrastructure and services with the building and to safely deliver the phased project in a live student environment.
