The Dandenong Education Precinct challenged the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development’s standard building requirements. This unique set of buildings pushed the boundaries of education design and efficiency whilst also significantly improving learning outcomes.

Not one to follow the easy path and produce another ‘standard’ secondary school, WGE worked closely with project architect Hayball to design what has become a multiple award winning school campus.

A wonderful learning environment for the students was delivered through design elements such as:

  • Using the hollow core first floor slab as a means of pre-treating the fresh air
  • A sophisticated building management system that adjusts fresh air volumes and thermal comfort

The new buildings have contributed to student attendance soaring with official surveys indicating that students are happier in their new environment. As principal, Martin Culkin noted, “For kids in this area to walk into an education environment like this has just been so uplifting”.

Dandenong Education Precinct has become a beacon for what’s possible in terms of innovative, cost effective solutions that create fantastic learning outcomes for students.
