Elements is a UDIA award winning residential development in the Pilbara, comprising of 136 residential lots plus public open space and the associated roads and services. WGE were the Consulting Engineers on the project, providing civil design and Superintendent support.
Key challenges on the project included:
- Stormwater drainage: the Town of Port Hedland required that stormwater could only be discharged from site at pre-development flow rates. This necessitated on-site storage and alternate flow paths due to site topography.
- Existing services: critical water supply infrastructure adjacent to the site and a redundant asbestos water main required construction of a replacement main through the Elements site. This solution avoided costly protection measures and resulted in an infrastructure upgrade.
Elements won the Russel Perry Award for Urban Development Excellence as well as the Affordable Development categories in the 2015 Urban Development Institute of Australia WA awards.
