Elizabeth Quay is a much anticipated waterfront development planned to reconnect the Perth City Centre to the Swan River. The State Government through the Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority (MRA) is delivering nine new mixed use development sites to the private sector to provide uniquely located residential, commercial, retail and hotel premises. This high profile development will also provide a 2.7 hectare inlet with a landscaped island connected by bridges to the surrounding split level promenade incorporating purpose designed style cafes, restaurants, an interactive water feature and space for entertainment events.

WGE were engaged through LandCorp in 2007 to provide engineering services for this project in the initial feasibility stage. From this time WGE have provided civil, structural, underground power, hydraulic, electrical and mechanical engineering services involving over 45 staff (throughout four offices) for the feasibility, design and construction phases.

Georgiou Group constructed the Forward Works Stage of this project which includes major infrastructure works such as:

  • Twin 2.25m diameter main drainage relocation.
  • 800 and 400mm diameter water mains, adjustments to sewer mains and utility services.
  • New Western Power high voltage city power supply access chamber and conduit system.
  • Extensions and adjustment of major roads Riverside Drive and William Street with connections to the freeway including traffic and street light relocations.

Works for the public realm and inlet stage has commenced by the Managing Contractor (MC) Leighton Broad. This part of the project includes the inlet, island, landscaped promenades, food and beverage outlets and development sites. The WGE team has been novated to the MC to provide engineering design services for earthworks, roads, drainage, sewers, water, underground power, street lighting, event services, underground structures, granite stone pavements and relocation of affected Barrack Square services and facilities.
