These two new residential developments form part of the Perry Lakes stadium redevelopment. Empire West comprises a four-storey building of 96 apartments while Empire East is a three storey building with 27 apartments, both with their own single-storey undercroft carpark. The development incorporates the original 1962 scoreboard building as a focal point housing a lounge area, gym and billiards room.

WGE were appointed as structural, civil and fire engineers for this project. Our work included the new-build structures and adaptive re-use and remediation of the existing scoreboard building.

Masonry construction was adopted throughout with the exception of ground-level walls which were constructed as AFS wall acting as deep-beam transfer elements. This eliminated the need for transfer beams and allowed greater carpark headroom to facilitate services reticulation.
