WGE provided the electrical and acoustic services to the Forbes hospital refurbishment project. Forbes Hospital is located within the Lachlan health district and provides acute and sub-acute services including emergency, obstetric, paediatric, general medical and surgical services to the community. The project involved part refurbishment to the existing facility and a new build comprising a single-storey building to the west of the site.

WGE’s electrical services infrastructure included a new site substation, new generator, new site main switchroom and centralised UPS room. The Acoustics team provided schematic design through to project delivery.

Project challenges

• Carrying out works whilst the hospital remained operational
• Minimising service disruptions to ensure optimal patient care
• Dealing with noise and vibration issues associated with construction on an operational hospital during construction
• Integrating services and dealing with upgrading the building façade for some specific areas
