This project involves converting Fremantle’s historic wool stores into 183 apartments. Original features to be retained include the saw-tooth roof, century old jarrah beams, exposed brick, grand windows and 3.6m high ceilings. The main challenge was maintaining the heritage façade but still finding a compliant solution for the NatHERS modelling.

WGE was required to model several different and apartment-specific options to achieve a compliant solution without impacting on the façade. The heritage brick was able to be exposed both internally and externally through retrofitting insulation into the existing cavity wall. The glazing requirements were balanced with the insulation to achieve the most cost effective option.
