The new 1,500 sqm church in Mandurah houses an auditorium capable of accommodating a congregation of 500 with a stage and mezzanine level seating. On the other side of a large multi-function foyer, arrange over two levels, is a separate activity space for up to 200 children along with office and kitchen facilities. The expansive open space is formed from tilt up concrete panels and a steel truss roof, tempered architecturally with a wrap-around cantilevered veranda and alfresco area.
Internally, WGE addressed multiple areas within the church to limit reverberation, maximise speech clarity and to ensure privacy as required. Located in a residential area, measures were applied to the church auditorium to control noise emissions externally. Within the auditorium, air conditioning makes use of prefabricated, ready-to-operate, packaged systems with on-board controls to minimise costs and installation. Electrical and mechanical solutions were tailored to suit the evolving and flexible auditorium space which can expand into external areas to accommodate large events.
A fire engineering performance solution was implemented to rationalise the fire hydrant services infrastructure, eliminating the need for onsite fire pumps and water storage tanks. The thermal fabric was carefully considered to ensure cost-effective results, while ensuring a comfortable space year-round - each space was individually reviewed to tailor suitable solutions. Significant assistance was given through the coordination period to provide sufficiently detailed documents to facilitate pricing accuracy and ease of construction.
