WGE were engaged for the electrical, ICT and security services of the $80 million Lismore Base Hospital redevelopment project. Lismore Base Hospital is located within the Northern NSW health district with the $80 redevelopment will providing improved access to a wider range of services, and additional capacity to respond to the rapid growth of the community.
The Stage 3A redevelopment delivers a contemporary facility in a mix of new and refurbished spaces. The new multi- storey development in Lismore included:
- A new and significantly expanded emergency department
- Emergency medical unit
- Emergency care / fast-track zone
- Expanded medical imaging capacity
- A new ambulance drop-off and bay
- A new renal dialysis unit
- A new hospital mortuary
Project challenges included:
- Review of the existing site infrastructure indentified limited ability to expand existing substations and server room
- Designing electrical and ICT services to meet the staged delivery requirements of the project
- Ensuring design is flexible to accommodate future fit out of level 6 operating theatres without requiring major upgrades
- Minimising disruption to hospital services while works are carried out
Works included:
- A new server room to service the new building, with capacity to cater for future demand
- Two new kiosk transformers to service the entire site, with capacity for future expansion
- New underground communications duct system to enable diverse fibre lead in routes within the site
- Standby emergency power supply
- AV system
- Security system including access control, intercoms and CCTV
- Nurse call and master clock systems
