The Darling Square project encompasses three residential development including 350 apartments each with podium (SW, NE and SE plot) and two commercial buildings (NW and N Plot). The project is the largest mixed-used development currently completed by Lendlease in NSW.
All the podium levels of each plot include a retail area requiring 3D modelling of the noise impact associated with all retail activities onto the surrounding residential plots. WGE was engaged by Lendlease in order to develop a master plan to administrate the interface between the residential component of the entire development and the retail component.
Population and operations assumptions were provided by Lendlease to develop the acoustic model and many iterations of the model were conducted during for the day, evening and night. WGE’s model demonstrated that the outdoor criteria could not be met and therefore a masterplan targeting indoor noise levels could be developed and achieved.
The challenge for the project was to develop a masterplan, allowing retail activities to operate with the least possible restriction in terms of hours of operation and number of patrons, which was successfully achieved.
