The Ocean Keys project involved major expansion and redevelopment of the existing shopping centre with complex structural interfacing. The extension of the shopping centre provides an additional 13,000m² of retail space, over 120 shops, dining and food court precinct, parking for 1600 cars in a triple storey car parking structure, as well as a three storey residential housing block.
Working closely with the project architects Taylor Robinson, WGE’s structural and civil teams assisted in the transformation of the centre. The structure comprises a large, open span, steel framed primary structure with precast walls and custom facades and a new three- level, post-tensioned, open deck car park structure designed to cater for an additional future level.
Staging the construction on a particularly tight site proved challenging whilst keeping the centre operational, car parking available and ‘feet coming through the door’.
