Napoleon Avenue Bridge, Dawson Estate

WGE arranged design and construction of a traffic bridge including coordination of specialist consultants, design co-ordination, tendering, contract administration and Superintendence of bridge and associated civil works. This bridge forms part of the main road for the village centre of the Vasse Newtown development. The bridge spans an existing Water Corporation stormwater drain with a single span of 25m. Construction consisted of 4 precast, prestressed Tee roff beams 1.2m deep. The Precast beams were fabricated in Perth and transported to the Southwest. Traffic volumes of 3700 vehicles per day were applicable to the Napoleon Ave bridge in Dawson Estate.

Evermore Apartments

This project involves construction of 24 apartments on the White Gum Valley site, and will become the first apartment development in WA to achieve certification as a One Planet Living development. One Planet Living involves creating opportunities for future occupants to live a truly sustainable lifestyle, rather than just sustainable design and construction. WGE acted as the One Planet Living integrator on this project. Integrated Marine Operations Centre

Port Hedland’s Integrated Marine Operations Centre (IMOC) will replace the existing and outdated Shipping Control Tower. Broadway Fair Shopping Centre

Working with solar energy provider Infinite Energy, WGE completed the electrical engineering design, supply authority applications and negotiations for connection approval. Broadway Fair Shopping Centre is home to WA’s largest rooftop solar PV system, generating 312kW from 948 panels. The system provides around 30% of the centre’s energy needs, generating almost 500,000kWh per year. The design ensured the complex project was completed successfully, with over 6km of cable required to install the system. The system is expected to save the centre around $240,000 per year in power bills, funds which can be redirected to crucial capital works.

Perth Zoo Solar Pergola

The Zoo was chosen as one of five locations across Perth to showcase solar energy as part of the Australian Government’s Solar Cities program in 2012. George Street, Leichhardt

As part of the overall development at 22 George Street, Leichhardt, street frontage works were carried out at McAleer Street, Upward Street and George Street. There are known flooding issues around the development, so the existing Sydney Water Culvert (which runs under McAleer and Upward Street) was upgraded, and the surrounding roads were re-graded to improve overland flow. A 2D flood assessment was carried out on the culvert upgrade works and regrading of the surrounding roads. Punchbowl Mosque

This project consisted of two levels of basement carpark and a mosque. The mosque itself will have capacity for over 200 people and contains facilities such as ablutions, a minaret and future works may include an elementary school sharing the podium floor. The main design goals were to create a space that is open and deviates from contemporary design. Design challenges: The biggest challenge faced on this job was the exposed concrete muqarnas which needed to have a class two finish of concrete. Macquarie University Art Precinct

This project involved refurbishment of the 40 year old W6A&B, to create the new WW25 MQU Art Precinct is located in the Macquarie University Campus. Works include the refurbishment of the existing buildings with new teaching spaces and office spaces, the creation of an atrium to connect new and existing buildings and link bridges to connect a Museum and Office accommodation. Cavendish State High School – New Year 7 Block

The project was initially tendered as a new building containing five general learning areas and one flexible learning area. 105 Phillip Street, Parramatta

The project is a 12-storey, 27,000m2 A-Grade office building being constructed in the City of Parramatta to house the Department of Education. WGE took the Tender 5 Star Green Star pathway and discovered opportunities to increase this to a simplified Green Star pathway to achieve a 6 Star Green Star outcome at a lower cost than the strategy proposed by the building owner’s consultant. Health Entities Relocation Consolidation (HERC)

This project involved a new 30,000m2 NLA building over nine levels to accommodate the Ministry of Health. The All Abilities Play Space is set over 10,000m2 on the Swan River foreshore in Nedlands. WGE have provided pro-bono services to bring this innovative project to life. Hilton Brisbane Level 5 – Conference and Event space renewal

The Hilton Brisbane Level 5 conference and event space underwent a $4 million refurbishment. Working with Carr Design, the team transformed the Level 5 ballrooms, pre-function area, lobby bar and associated amenity areas. The 2,500m2 refurbishment project created an improved space that has better functionality and flexibility for event clients and an upgraded acoustic environment for an improved event experience.

Prahran High School

This project involves construction of a new five-storey vertical high school next to Swinburne University. The school will open in term one, 2019 with its first cohort of Year 7 students. The vertical school features an open atrium at the centre of the building, modern teaching areas, a performance space and outdoor areas on every level. Laidley Library and Customer Service Centre

This project involved refurbishment of the Old Laidley Town Hall and the removal of the adjacent administration building to deliver the Laidley Library and Customer Service Centre. The first stage of the project involved demolition works to decrease the overall footprint of the existing building to approximately half the original size. WGE reviewed the existing systems and re-used or relocated these where possible to reduce costs. Macquarie University - Refurbishment of Building E7A

E7A, one of Macquarie Universities oldest buildings, underwent a major renewal and space upgrade. It was designed to target high sustainability performance criteria to minimise whole-of-life ecological impacts. Working in conjunction with the Electrical team in Sydney, WGE’s Fire Engineering team were successful in maintaining architectural intent around the design of the atrium spanning all levels of the building. This project comprised involves construction of a mixed-use, 26 level, 49,271m2 6 Star Green Star commercial tower with end of trip facilities in Parramatta. A retail arcade interlinks Church Street, Macquarie Street and the foyer of the Commercial Tower. The design focuses on providing a connection through both sites and activating the adjacent laneways with alfresco dining and retail opportunities.
