This project consisted of two levels of basement carpark and a mosque. The mosque itself will have capacity for over 200 people and contains facilities such as ablutions, a minaret and future works may include an elementary school sharing the podium floor. The main design goals were to create a space that is open and deviates from contemporary design.
Design challenges:
The biggest challenge faced on this job was the exposed concrete muqarnas which needed to have a class two finish of concrete. The solution around this was to create a fibreglass mould which would be used to form these shapes. Generally, all other walls and exposed elements were also class two finish so extra detailing and attention was required to ensure all concrete elements would not crack and remain durable throughout its design life.
