WGE were engaged by WA property and construction group Pindan to provide an integrated design for the hydraulics services for St Catherine’s College at the University of Western Australia (WA).

The facility offers residential accommodation to University of WA students and is built in five interconnected three and four storey buildings, with roof garden facilities on two of the buildings. The development featured 250 world class student accommodation rooms each with ensuite and kitchenette.

The hydraulics services design featured an innovative “warm water” solution that eliminated the need for individual tempering valves in each room. This had the flow on effect of significantly reducing maintenance costs by eliminating the requirement to enter rooms to service valves.

WGE also provided detailed design of the sanitary waster system, the wet fire services system and stormwater drainage. A coordinated early works package allowed the builder to get out of the ground while detailed design of the upper floors was being finalised.

WGE provided ongoing site inspections to assess build quality as well as monthly inspections to assess progress claims.

The project was completed on time for the commencement of the 2014 academic year.
