Key People
This project is the primary maintenance facility for the Swire Oilfield Operation within the northwest of Western Australia, located in Karratha.
WGE were engaged to undertake the design, documentation and site attendance for the facility in two stages. Stage 1 included the maintenance shed with a separate partition of the structure for subletting. Stage 2 was the completion of the maintenance shed and office facility.
Stage 1 of the project was complete in March 2014 with Stage 2 to be complete by March 2015. The stage 1 facility is 58m long, 20m wide and 10m high at the apex. Stage 2 is the same size facility as well as a single storey office building.
The client’s directive was to ensure the structure could protect the equipment within the facility during a cyclonic event. WGE utilised the use of “Kingspan” as wall and roof cladding to ensure the structure’s compliance with the latest wind design code. Additionally the thermal performance of the project was also enhanced by the use of “Kingspan”.
The WGE design focused on this particular requirement as well as repetition to aid the fabricator for the project. The repetition was achieved by using similar details throughout and maximising the use of similar size sections whilst still maintaining focus on an efficient and economic design for the building.
