Since 1908, Steve’s Hotel has stood as a well-known West Australian local landmark and WGE were excited at the prospect of being part of the hotel’s expansion and redevelopment.

The project involved two main stages:

• Adaptive re-use of the existing heritage hotel and conversion to luxury apartments.
• Construction of a new integrated, fine wine and food restaurant to replace the existing restaurant.

Highlights from the works included:

• A high water table and a requirement to excavate the new car-park basement directly next to the 100-year old heritage structure.
• The architectural brief called for unique design elements which necessitated large-span areas in the restaurants dining areas as well as pre-fabricated feature steel elements for the façade.
